  • Out of 50 cases (= 50 eyes), fungal growth was predominant 23/50 representing 46% with Aspergillus flavus being the most prevalent 14/23(61%). Bacterial growth was 7/50 (14%), 4/7 was gram-positive cocci (Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumonie) and 3/7 was pseudomonas spp. While twenty out of 50 cases (40%) showed no growth. Ocular trauma was the major cause of infectious keratitis, more in rural population. Fungal growth; mainly Aspergillus spp. was the most prevalent pathogen encountered in all cases. Voriconazole proved to be the first choice in the treatment of mould keratitis with 100% susceptibility. While alarmingly, fluconazole should no longer be used for the empir...

  • Sixty bacterial isolates were isolated from Al-Rahawy drain sediments and screened for biosurfactant production. Only 10 isolates were recoded as biosurfactant producers by the oil spreading and emulsifying assays in addition to the ability of biosurfactant on heavy metal removal in wastewater. The most potent isolate was identified using morphological, cultural, biochemical characteristics, antibiotics susceptibility, and 16 s rRNA technique as Citrobacter freundii MG812314.1.

  • A total of 346 stool specimens from children of clinically suspected gastroenteritis below five years have been obtained, and bacterial pathogens were recovered using selective media, biochemical and serologic tests. We found that 35 (10%) of them were confirmed bacterial gastroenteritis (BGE) with either Escherichia coli O157 (14%), Salmonella spp. (43%), and Shigella spp. (43%). Nevertheless, the prevalence of E. coli O157, Salmonella spp., and Shigella spp. in this study were documented as 1.45%, 4.34%, and 4.34%, respectively. Moreover, 2 (40%) of E. coli O157, 4 (26.67%) of Salmonella spp., and 14 (93%) of the Shigella spp. were found as multidrug-resistant. Nonetheless, Shigella...

  • The types of vaccines include attenuated live vaccines, and these vaccines were shown to be effective in inducing protection. The second type is killed vaccine or whole bacteria extracts which is less successful in providing protection compared to live vaccines. The metabolic product vaccine (toxoids) is the third type of vaccine. The recombinant DNA technique was adopted to produce the protective antigens in a sufficient amount and in cost-effective ways.

  • Delta SARS-CoV-2 spike protein RBD antigen, in concentration of 10 µg/mL, increases IFN-α, more than 1500 times. It also increases IFN-ß about 150 times, and TGF-ß about 74 times. Increase in IFN-ƴ, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and IL-1ß was insignificant. When after administration of Bryonia 6C, the chick embryo was challenged with antigen, only interferons are moderately upregulated along with IL-6. Although increase in interferons after 48 h is beneficial to the embryo, an increase in IL-6 may lead to initiation of upsurge of pro-inflammatory cytokines. This may be detrimental to the normal physiological activities of the embryo, and thus, the preventive role of Bryonia 6C is questionable. In...

  • The 350 patients in the study had an average age of 55.9 (13.5) years, with 270 (77.14%) of them being male. Data on demographics, clinical care, and biochemistry are shown in Table 1. Throughout their hospital stay, all PPV patients were divided into two groups. The first group included 48/350 (13.7 percent) individuals who acquired PBT after receiving any form of PPV. The second group consisted of 302 individuals (86.28%) who had received any type of PPV but had not acquired PBT. Out of 350 patients who received PPV, 190 patients (54.28%) received IPPV, and 30 patients developed PBT. On the other hand, NIPPV was given to 160 patients (45.71 percent). Ninety patients got BiPAP, and 7...

  • This paper aims to give a basic overview on the existing approaches for the assessment of multi-risk assessment along geothermal pipelines. It delivers basic principles on the analysis of risks and its contributing variables, in order to model the loss consequences. By considering the loss consequences, as well as the alternatives for mitigation measures, the environmental safety in geothermal working area could be enforced.

  • In this study, we present a Bayesian framework to calibrate the widely used process-based simulator Biome-BGC against estimates of gross primary production (GPP) data. We used GPP partitioned from flux tower measurements of a net ecosystem exchange over a 55-year-old Douglas fir stand as an example. The uncertainties of both the Biome-BGC parameters and the simulated GPP values were estimated. The calibrated parameters leaf and fine root turnover (LFRT), ratio of fine root carbon to leaf carbon (FRC : LC), ratio of carbon to nitrogen in leaf (C : Nleaf), canopy water interception coefficient (Wint), fraction of leaf nitrogen in RuBisCO (FLNR), and effective soil rooting depth (SD) cha...

  • Parameters of a process-based forest growth simulator are difficult or impossible to obtain from field observations. Reliable estimates can, however, be obtained using calibration against observations of output and state variables. In this study, we present a Bayesian framework to calibrate the widely used process-based simulator BIOME-BGC against estimates of gross 5 primary production (GPP) data. We used GPP partitioned from flux tower measurements of a net ecosystem exchange over a 55 year old Douglas fir stand as an example. The uncertainties of both the BIOME-BGC parameters and the simulated GPP were estimated. The calibrated parameters leaf and fine root turnover (LFRT), ratio o...

  • A Bayesian multi-model inference framework was used to assess the changes in the occurrence of extreme hydroclimatic events in four major river basins in China (i.e., Liaohe River Basin, Yellow River Basin, Yangtze River Basin, and Pearl River Basin) under RCP2.6, RCP4.5, and RCP8.5 scenarios using multiple global climate model projections from the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report. The results projected more summer days and fewer frost days in 2006–2099. The ensemble prediction shows the Pearl River Basin is projected to experience more summer days than other basins with the increasing trend of 16.3, 38.0, and 73.0 d per 100 years for RCP2.6, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5, respectively. Liaohe River ...
