  • Amyloid beta peptide (Aβ) is the main component of plaques and is known to play a role in the development of Alzheimer's disease (AD). As a result, structures that can trap Aβ or disrupt the interaction between Aβ and cells have been researched as a way to lessen the pathological effects of Aβ. Particularly, sialylated compounds that exhibit clustering effects could be advantageous.

  • The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic has been leading to dramatic health, social and economic problems around the world. It was necessary to introduce worldwide vaccination program against SARS-CoV-2 virus. Vaccination of billions of people around the world leads to many questions about risk of vaccines and possible side effects. It is well known that acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is a rare, but possible complication of vaccines. Previously, cases of ADEM following various COVID-19 vaccines, including the vaccines from AstraZenica, Pfizer, Sputnik V, SinoVac, Moderna, Sinopharm, have been described. In this case report, we present the first documented case of ADEM following the COVID-19 vaccine Ad26.COV2.S from Johnson & Johnson.

  • Typhoid fever, a disease caused by a gram negative bacterial species known as Salmonella typhi, constitutes a significant cause of morbidity and mortality, especially in developing nations of the world. Antibiotic therapy is the major treatment option currently but the rising incidences of resistance to existing antibiotics has necessitated the search for newer ones. The aim of this study is to apply in silico techniques to design highly potent novel imidazole-based drug candidates that strongly antagonize a cell invasion protein (SipA) of Salmonella typhi.

  • Nanomaterials have emerged as a fascinating class of materials in high demand for a variety of practical applications. They are classified based on their composition, dimensions, or morphology. For the synthesis of nanomaterials, two approaches are used: top-down approaches and bottom-up approaches.

  • Persistent pain after total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a real concern for the surgeon and is a significant cause of patient dissatisfaction; periprosthetic joint infection (PJI), aseptic loosening, and instability are among the common causes of painful THA. However, few rare causes have been reported in the literature; the complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) was reported to occur after primary hip and knee arthroplasties. Case presentation: We present a female patient who had bilateral hip resurfacing when she was 28 years old after being diagnosed with bilateral hip avascular necrosis; over 16 years, she was satisfied. She started developing pain in her right hip in 2019, diagnosed as aseptic loosening, and a revision using a cementless THA was performed. Six months later, she was...

  • Onchocerciasis, commonly known as river blindness, is an eye and skin parasitic disease caused by the filarial worm Onchocerca volvulus (O. volvulus) and transmitted by repeated bites of infected blackflies (Simulium species) (WHO 2022). Onchocerca species that infect domestic and wild animals, such as O. lupi, O. dewittei japonica, O. cervicalis, O. jakutensis, and O. gutturosa, have been reported to infect humans in 40 cases with clinical manifestations similar to those caused by O. volvulus (Cambra-Pellejà et al. 2020). Blackflies usually breed in fast-flowing and oxygen-rich streams and rivers hence the high prevalence of onchocerciasis in villages along or near the fast-flowing streams and rivers (WHO 2022).
