  • Lateral buds recorded the highest significant mean values for shoot, root length, and the number of leaves when cultured in MS + 1.2 mg/l of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) + 1.5 g/l of activated charcoal. Seeds were also grown in different media. The best results were obtained with MS basal medium. The resulting shoots were rooted in MS medium, with 1.5 g/l of activated charcoal. Regenerated plants were acclimatized in the greenhouse. The 38 SSR primers produced 63 scorable bands ranging from 1 to 3, with an average of 1.68 per primer. Fifty-five monomorphic bands were obtained that ranged from 0 to 3, with an average of 1.45 per primer. The coefficient of similarity matrix ranged from 0.92 to 1.0, with an average of 97.4. Dendrogram generated using the SSR data tended to group the in vi...

  • The results indicated that the samples collected from Taiz companies showed that high concentrations of aflatoxins ranged 26–45 ppb, than other samples which were collected from Sana’a while the fumonisins were 1–5.9 ppm. Moreover, lower concentrations of fumonisins were collected from Taiz companies (0.65–0.93 ppm). Aflatoxins in samples collected from farmer’s poultry in Taiz and Dhamar were 42.5 ppb. Also in samples from Sana’a and Ibb, the high concentration found is 39 ppb. The maximum significant mean of aflatoxins production was 25.2 ppb at 25 °C. Aflatoxins production was decreased at lower or higher tested temperature (3.6, 9.93 ppb) at 15 °C and 35 °C respectively. Similarly, fumonisin produced at 25 °C was 1.65 ppm, but decreased at lower or higher temperatures tested 1.3...

  • In the rat model of depression, the animals showed a significant decrease in motor activity. This was associated with significant decreases in serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the cortex and hippocampus. However, significant increases in the activities of AchE and Na+, K+, ATPase, and the levels of MDA and NO were recorded in both areas of rat model of depression while GSH showed a significant decrease in the hippocampus. Caffeine failed to restore the decrease in motor activity. Caffeine treatment ameliorated the changes in cortical and hippocampal norepinephrine and dopamine and hippocampal serotonin. In addition, it restored MDA and GSH levels. However, it failed to prevent the increased AchE and Na+, K+, ATPase activities, and NO levels.

  • Three loci on GH gene named GH1, GH2, and GH6 polymorphisms were analyzed. GH1-HaeIII/RFLP showed only two genotypes (AB and BB) in all breeds, with absent AA genotype. Both Barki and Zaraibi exhibited the highest GC genotype frequency (0.95). GH2-HaeIII/RFLP produced only two homozygous genotypes AA in Damascus and BB in both Barki and Zaraibi, with the absence of AB genotype in the three breeds. However, digestion of GH6 by HaeIII was monomorphic; it exhibited different single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), detected by DNA sequencing, among the studied goat breeds.

  • It was found that Li injection caused significant (P < 0.05) elevation in serum urea, creatinin and BUN levels associated with decline in uric acid and T. protein. Moreover, Li increased the urinary excretion of NAG significantly (P < 0.05). Administration of CS orally restored levels of these measurements to normalcy in CS pre-treated group through lowering urea, creatinin, BNU levels and urinary excretion of NAG with enhancing uric acid and T. protein levels.

  • About 71.29% of lignin (maximum amount of lignin) was removed after 7% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) pretreatment followed by 3% pretreatment (about 67.13%). Also, maximum cellulose (about 71.33%) was preserved after 7% NaOH pretreatment. Results of reducing sugars obtained by spectrophotometric analysis (3,5-dinitrosalycilic acid method) of pretreated rice straw show about 88.27% conversion (753 mg/g) after the 13th day of hydrolysis by bacteria isolated from a termite. FE-SEM, XRD, FTIR, and TGA analyses show a significant amount of lignin was removed which helps in releasing cellulose tangled in lignin.

  • This study was conducted on 20 dogs divided into two equal group (n = 10). The first group, in which a semi-flexible video laryngoscope (VLS) fitted with endotracheal tube was introduced and placed into the trachea of the experimental dogs. In the second group, dogs were intubated through soft and flexible video laryngoscope (VLS) fitted with the endotracheal tube. Number and time of the first attempt for introduction of ET were recorded. The number of attempts was significantly (P < 0.05) lower and intubation time was significantly (P < 0.05) longer in semi-flexible VLS when compared to soft and flexible video laryngoscope. No complications (death, oesophageal intubation or dental injury) were recorded during the course of the study.

  • In the present study, a total of one hundred clinical samples were obtained from different cases of infected wounds. Forty isolates (40%) of pure bacterial cultures were detected. Pseudomonas aeruginosa was found to be the predominant agent isolated from the wound infections (32.5%) followed by Staphylococcus spp. (25%), E. coli (20%), Klebsiella spp. (20%), and Proteus mirabilis (2.5%). Sensitivity of the bacterial isolates was tested against antibiotic discs: piperacillin, ampicillin, oxacillin, pinicillin, gentamicin, tobramycin, amikacin, streptomycin, ceftriaxone , ceftazidime, cefoxitin, cefoperazone, cefuroxime, cefepime, cefotaxime, ciprofloxacin, oflaxacin, levofloxacin, lomefloxacin, moxifloxacin, tetracycline, aztreonam, azithromycin, erythromycin, imipenem, piperacillin-...

  • No significant differences between studied diabetic and healthy children (8–12 years) (total generic health-related quality of life score mean = (77.05 ± 14.58 vs. 79.32 ± 11.15, respectively). But there was a significant decrease for studied diabetic adolescents (13–18 years) compared to healthy peers (64.37 ± 14.54 vs. 74.74 ± 13.34, respectively). Microvascular complications impacted the health-related quality of life of type 1 diabetic children and adolescents, the most worsen effect was associated with neuropathy (p < 0.001). Statistically significant negative correlations were found between health-related quality of life domains with all metabolic control parameters, and the strongest correlation was between treatment adherence scale with HbA1c% (r = − 0.941, p ˂ 0.001). Healt...

  • The present investigation was carried during the spring (season 2018) to evaluate the effect of growth regulator pyriproxyfen at concentrations 1, 10, and 100 μg/larva on Bombyx mori L., as well as the effect of amino acid glycine 1% concentration solely or in combination with pyriproxyfen at the fifth day of fifth larval instar. Feeding fifth instar larvae of B. mori on mulberry leaves dipped in glycine 1% resulted in a significant increase in the weight of mature larvae and shorter larval duration, recording 5.12 g and 9.00 days, respectively. Meanwhile, the highest significant pupal weight (1.277 g) was attained when larvae were treated topically with pyriproxyfen at 10 μg/larva in the fifth day in combined with glycine 1%. Regarding technological parameters, larvae which were to...
