  • The results demonstrated that dill cv. Dukat gave the highest plants (cm), maximum leaf number per plant, pigment content (mg/g), total carbohydrates (%), nitrogen, and phosphorus percentages in the vegetative growth stage. Meanwhile, dill cv. Balady recorded the maximum potassium percentage and low content of nitrate accumulation (mg/kg) in the vegetative growth stage. Both dill cultivars contained antioxidants without significant differences between them. The best fertilization treatments were 100% organic fertilization with biofertilizer and 100% chemical fertilizer for plant height (cm), leaf number per plant, pigment content, antioxidant percentage, total carbohydrate percentage, and N and P percentages of two dill genotypes. On the other hand, 50% organic fertilization with bi...

  • The investigated compounds were able to scavenge HOO· and CH3OO· radicals by HAT and SPLET mechanisms in the gas phase and aqueous solution, based on the computed results of reaction enthalpies and Gibbs free energy. The SET-PT mechanism for these compounds was observed to be thermodynamically unfeasible in the gas phase. However, the thermodynamic feasibility of free radical scavenge by SET-PT mechanism was observed in aqueous solution. Among the investigated compounds, MCC 009 (1E,4E)-1-(3-(aminomethyl)-4-hydroxyphenyl)-5-(4-hydroxy-3-((hydroxy (methyl)amino) methyl)phenyl) penta-1,4-dien-3-one at the 19-OH position possessed the highest capacity to scavenge both HOO· and CH3OO· radicals by HAT, SET-PT, and SPLET mechanisms.

  • The antioxidant activity of the PC extract of FM is considerably high when measuring it by the three methods (the β-carotene coupled oxidation method, the DPPH free radical scavenging activity method, and measuring the reducing antioxidant power). The toxicity test revealed that the PC extract was nontoxic on normal retina cell line. Also, it has no anticoagulating activity. Evaluation of antimicrobial activity showed that it is effective towards four strains only from seven. FM phenolic extract has been evaluated as chemo-preventive agents by testing the product for any cytotoxic activity against human tumor cell lines. The highest inhibitory effect was achieved on cell lines of colon carcinoma and lung carcinoma with IC50 = 22.3 and 22.6 μ/ml respectively.

  • Se-enriched mushrooms are produced by cultivation on substrates enriched with either inorganic or organic forms of Se and Se-hyperaccumulated agricultural residues. Edible mushrooms accumulate Se from substrate into selenoproteins and selenoenzymes as selenomethionine and selenocysteine, the organic and most bioavailable forms of Se. Without affecting the biological efficiency, the enrichment process enhances the total protein and total phenolic content and bioaccessibility of trace elements. The antioxidant action was higher for Se-fortified mushrooms in terms of total phenolics, total antioxidant, 1, 1-diphenyl-dipicrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging, metal chelating, and lipid peroxidation inhibition activities in comparison with unfortified mushrooms. Also, Se-enriched mushrooms are ...

  • The results indicate that the Gemmeiza-11 cultivar was the most adapted cultivar to grow in the Nubaria region. Individually, glutathione at 300 mg/l or selenium at 10 mg/l caused the highest significant increases in shoot dry weight/plant of three wheat cultivars relative to other levels. Likewise, glutathione treatment at 300 mg/l was the optimum treatment in increasing photosynthetic pigments in three wheat cultivars. Selenium treatment at 10 mg/l was better than selenium treatment at 5 mg/l. Interaction between glutathione at 300 mg/l and selenium at 10 mg/l caused the highest significance increases in total photosynthetic pigments. It is obvious that glutathione at 300 mg/l or selenium at 10 mg/l as individual treatment showed the highest significant increase in grain yield (to...

  • The results revealed that MSG inclusion above 0.75 g/kg diet significantly (P < 0.05) increased the serum Na+ and K+ concentrations of the broiler chickens when compared with birds on the control diet, whereas the serum Cl− concentration significantly (P < 0.05) decreased from 0.50 g MSG/kg diet inclusion level. On the other hand, MSG inclusion level above 0.50 g/kg diet increased the serum MDA concentration (from 2.60 ± 0.01 to 4.60 ± 0.00) of the birds while serum GSH-Px and T-AOC concentrations significantly (P < 0.05) reduced from 170 ± 0.28 to 120 ± 0.26 and 3.30 ± 0.01 to 1.70 ± 0.01, respectively.
