  • Construction of coastal structures or upstream hydroelectric dams will obviously cause erosion in coastal estuaries due to the lack of sediment supply. However, in coastal areas located far from the estuary, where there are often beautiful beaches, sometimes occurs severe coastal erosion caused by the formation of the mega-cusp. If the local beach resort is developed without understanding about this phenomenon, it will cause great economic losses. Tanaka et al., 2018 have been investigated the serious coastal erosion and huge damages to the beach resort infrastructure on My Khe Beach in Da Nang City of Vietnam based on the analysis of detected shoreline positions from the Google Eart...

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the shoreline changes before and after the road construction based on the rectified aerial photograph analysis. Analyzed results indicated that the impact of the new road construction is a main reason causing the disappearance of sandy beach on Ba Lang region. The straight forward direction of the road had changed the incidence wave angle to the shoreline. As a result, the unbalancing of wave-induced longshore current caused the sediment moving to either left-hand side or right-hand side direction dependent on the location on the beach. These results are also suggested that in order to recover the sandy beach in this area, the shape of sho...
