Oral acute toxicity study on stem bark extracts of Bombax costatum Pellegr. and Vuillet on wistar albino rats

Abstract

Phytochemical screening on chloroform, ethanol and n-hexane extracts of Bombax costatum stem bark Qualitative phytochemical screening for secondary metabolites in chloroform, ethanol and n-hexane extracts of B. costatum stem bark is summarized in Table 1. In all the three extracts, the following phytochemicals were detected; alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids and terpenes, cardiac glycosides and anthraquinones. Even though tannins were detected in chloroform and ethanol extract of the plant, they are not found in n-hexane extract.
