Guided close range photogrammetry for 3D modelling of cultural heritage sites

Abstract

Thesis presents a literature review on the state–of–the–art in the Image based modelling and camera network design and optimization; describes the camera network design, the minimal network and the optimization of the networks; describes the guiding system design for capturing the images in the field as well as the computation of the image connectivity graph; presents the occlusion problem in 3D modelling and the procedures for detecting the resulted gaps in the point clouds; present experimental tests that show the impact of using the proposed methodology in the application of cultural heritage documentation; describes the conclusions and recommendations for future research.
